Kristy Boyles and Mike Desmond, longtime high school coaches and ambassadors for the sport of lacrosse in Charlotte, were recently inducted into the NC Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Boyles, who played college lacrosse at University of Richmond, became head coach of Charlotte Country Day’s girls’ team in 2012. Under her leadership, the team has won a slew of NCISAA State Titles, including an astounding streak of championships from  2013 through 2018. UNC Charlotte’s women’s program officially gets underway on February 8 when the 49ers will play their season opener against Gardner Webb University at home. The Niner’s 16-game schedule features nine home games at UNC Charlotte’s Jerry Richardson Stadium (where admission is free for all fans!) It may be the team’s first season, but no one’s taking it easy on the Niners. They face 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Champions Coastal Carolina on the road for their third game on Valentine’s Day. Spring is just around the corner and there’s already plenty to get excited about. Specifically, the Queens U. Royals just released their Spring schedules for their men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. Fans of women’s lacrosse know that the best player in recent history is Charlotte North, the two-time Tewaaraton Award winner who led Boston College to its first national championship in 2021.
